Lost In Transportation

I arrived in Bahrain. But my baggage didn’t.

I just love airports. I just love the way it always caused me trouble.

I adore the confusing parking, the countless arrows and signs, how efficient the intertwining terminals and people are. I adore the order, the careful structure, the way I’m always a bug in the midst of a very large machine. The steel metal detectors. Chubby, laughing, airport goons, with pink cheeks like Santa Claus.

After my check-in once in Dubai in gate 38 (golly, that was some walk from gate 1 arrival to gate 38!! Like the length of 3 football fields), I closed my eyes and thought about the number of people boarding and getting off planes at the very moment, the number of opportunities available at the very moment. I wanted to run past security, past the millions of metal detectors lined up in a row, and hop on a plane and let it take me where it took me. And I would spend the rest of the flight fantasizing about my destination, only realizing where it was to be when hearing the voice of the pilot.

“Your baggage will arrive safely in Bahrain where you may collect it” - I asked them, oh yes I did, “will my luggage be safe? when I’m shifting flights?”

They simply nodded. But it never happened. I had to file an enquiry at the Bahrain Airport for missing luggage. He said he will call me tonight. The Suitcase contains priceless backup CDs/DVD’s - which MUST NOT be lost at any cost. Thankfully, my website backups were safely with me in my pocket. Encrypted inside my black 30 GB iPod.

My Baggage was Lost in Transportation.

Update: What goes around, comes around.

I got an SMS from Bahrain Airport last night that my suitcase was found. It is now safe with me. Its all over Bangalore news papers that the cargo from Bangalore never made it the correct flights. My baggage was loaded incorrectly on a Lufthansa Airlines Jet instead of Emirates and the cargo of all five international flights that night was also screwed up.

Ruben is really bored. So you can email him by clicking here. He usually gets back in 3 minutes or it could take up to 3 weeks depending on how addicted he is, to stumbleupon.  Been a little busy for a while, so I'm averaging about a blog every 2 moon cycles. If you are lucky, you'll get to see a new blog entry and know what I'm upto. And when you are here, just let me know by leaving a comment.

The airport is not run like a computer. The big companies don’t run right. Everyone thinks they know what they are doing. Hey R. use your computer skills and teach the right people. I am sure you knew what was going on in the airport.

You know about computers. Teach someone who is working with business about computers. Don’t teach everyone. I hated to write that. When you know how to do someone’s job and that career/job may be your job.

I’m lost with signs! We can help each other. I don’t even know how you keep on sending these blogs. Your an entrepreneur and make sure pay you for what your worth in the world. Look at the careers out there and see when you can work with someone. Keep on learning! I was in your place 20+ years ago. You must keep on climbing stairs. You are making your mark in the world!

I love airports. I hate lost luggage. I’m so glad you got it back. I’m going on a short plane trip next month to attend a family gathering. It’s only an hour, with no plane changes.
