It is that time of the year when Atheists around the world prepare to not welcome the cold, commercialized, false cheeriness, horrible hugs, wishes and fake smiles that mask the underlying social-political back stabbing–also known as Christmas.
It has been an year since I blogged “Why I Hate Christmas” last winter. W.I.H.C, was initially blogged in my Yahoo! 360 blog. But Yahoo! is pulling (or as they call it, “a transition”) from the community beta project and hence, my blog might be lost. I have moved it to this site’s archives.
Read the previous entry for WHY *I* HATE CHRISTMAS. The previous one was all about venting atheist frustrations but Its a pretty funny rant, I might add. Its a great read for me because I never knew my younger self had such a weird way of expressing things. Maybe it has only been a year, but I’ve traveled a great distance, met a lot of people, came back to India from Bahrain, burned a lot of petrol, rubber and money, learned another language, graduated, joined college, survived a couple of ditches and crossed countless obstacles within this time that I feel at least ten years older. Anyway, lets get back to this weeks’ hate blog.
Today, my hate for christmas is nothing related to my lack of belief.
I traveled so much and once when I pause after a long time and take a look around, I see the same tiny lights, wreaths, santa heads, ridiculous stars hanging around and decorations all over the place. Thats when you just want to scream out loud, “WILL THIS MADNESS EVER END?!!”
Jesus (if he existed or still exists), the chief spokesman for Christianity and poster boy for integrity, must be really pissed to see what christians have turned his birthday into! (Er, so is the birthday of Oden, Athena, Krishna and all, but what ever! lets stick to Xtians who stole the season’s popularity from Pagans.)
Christmas has become the antithesis of itself. It is supposed to be an attitude from the heart of sharing, reflection, and spending time with the ones you love. For those who believe in Christianity it is supposed to be a quiet remembrance of the Biblical Christmas story. (ya right! thats rich!)
Instead, everybody rushes around going through the motions out of a sense of duty. They want to appear as though they have the Christmas spirit but instead are just mindlessly complying with all the demands and obligations that bombard us from every direction. They use up an unbelievable amount of time and money on Christmas stuff.
While we’re on the subject, I really hate people who love Christmas and go all out. I hate how they look at me funny when I say I don’t like the holiday and I don’t celebrate it. I hate it when they say, “You are weird”. I hate how they reminisce about their childhoods like they were made just perfect by whatever shitty toy ended up under the tree when they were six. I hate watching a bunch of greedy, snot-nosed brats go into a psychotic rage over the sheer magnitude of Stuff that their parents throw at them is supposed to make me feel “joyous” and “warm” and “nostalgic” Urgh!
I hate how everyone remembers poor people and homeless people for two weeks and then promptly forgets about them again.
I hate how the Christian right won’t shut up about Christmas; how they’ve made the holiday into their own political agenda that they shove in my face every chance they get.
I wont read news papers for a month! (not that I’m regular reader) I hate how the news articles in every goddamn paper are always the same! Buy this, Buy that! be a good person if you do this… oh shut up!! isn’t it obvious? they want YOUR MONEY, YOU IDIOTS! — they don’t even give a damn if Mary got ******* by god himself.
I hate Atheists who say christmas is not about God, but about the Festive mood and presents. Well, **** you! spineless cowards, speak up for once in your lifetime against the biggest hoax ever in human history. (Not all atheists tho.)
I hate myself for wasting 3 hours of sleep to write this rant, again! and for the fact that I will do so again for all the years to come..
Have a GodLess Season Everyone. & Here is a John Lennon video for christmas.
