Wrong Shoes!!

shoes.jpgDear Diary,

I went to pick up Angeline & Evelyn from the airport today. The Bangalore flight arrived 20 minutes earlier than expected in Cochin International. Needless to say, I was still on my way to the airport at well over 100Kms/Hr. Anjechi called me and said that she would wait up front after getting her luggage.

Minutes later, I payed the parking fees for the Airport, picked up my phone from the dashboard and and walked to the gates. Dialing Anjechi’s cell on my way. I saw Evie next to her mom pushing the trolley (she thinks she is a big help for mommy) the minute Anjechi picked up the phone. We both said “hello” together, looking at each other with a huge glass pane separating us. It had been 2 months since I saw Evie on my last trip to Bangalore in June. She hid her face behind Mommy when she got sight me standing at the domestic flights’ arrival gates.

Even after Evie’s 2nd birthday, I still don’t feel like an uncle. It always makes me smile when every one corrects Evie to call me an uncle; but I’m comfortable with her calling me “Duba“. If I remember correctly, it was around 6 months ago that I told her to call me by my name instead of an “uncle”, in any language, added as a prefix or suffix. But she still can’t get her tongue to say Ruba. Now I really understand why they call Evie a bundle of joy.

After a few quick hugs (she knows I don’t do hugs), Anjechi passed me the trolley and we walked towards the car. Loaded the trunks with her bags & I got inside the car; And thats when I noticed something, I had my Nike on my left foot and the K-Swiss on the Right!!! Anjechi noticed me going silent for a second and her eyes followed mine to the car’s carpet. I had two different shoes on my legs. Fortunately for me, both were black.

I didn’t sleep the night before, since I will have to wake up in 3 hours anyway for the 7AM flight. I’m a light sleeper. I sleep only once every 2 days, most of the time. Then again, I was quite excited about having some time together with my only sister this Onam. Angeline & I never grew up together. We hardly know each other that well. But she & her girl are the only two people in the world that I call family

She asked me quietly, “wanna explain?” I was silent for a second or two. I was still in shock that I came all this way and I didn’t notice two different shoes on my legs. I finally got my voice back and replied, “Er, Insomnia… I don’t wanna talk about it.

I could sense her trying to suppress giggles, sitting next to me. I felt my face turn red.

Insomnia is characterized by an inability to sleep. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to “rest their mind”. And as a result, they end up wearing different sized shoes and vivid colored socks Or even wear their shirts inside out.

Angeline: Anjechi | Evelyn: Evie

Ruben is really bored. So you can email him by clicking here. He usually gets back in 3 minutes or it could take up to 3 weeks depending on how addicted he is, to stumbleupon.  Been a little busy for a while, so I'm averaging about a blog every 2 moon cycles. If you are lucky, you'll get to see a new blog entry and know what I'm upto. And when you are here, just let me know by leaving a comment.

I SOOOOOOOOOOOOO loved this, Ru!!! It made me happy to hear you like this … and it’s absolutely wonderful that you had on two different shoes!! (Note to self: Be sure to always keep only one color of shoe in the closet…)

That was a beautiful story … lil children are so precious.

As for your shoes at least the color was the same and they weren’t both left footed…. Smiles and giggles!

Now get some sleep Mr Web Man

I don’t know if this will help or not but it does remind me of a something that happened to me once. One day I came into work and my boss and I walked down to the caff for coffee. On the way, back up to our desks, I noticed my shoes were on the wrong feet. So, I stopped in my tracks put my shoes on the correct feet and just kept going like nothing happpened. When things like this happen to me, it’s just a good time to laugh. Don’t sweat the small stuff…

Get some sleep and smile, so you can enjoy some time good quality time with two of the only people in the world you would call “family”. You need that.

Your niece sounds incredibly adorable. I had trouble saying “Nancy” when I was a little girl. You can ask my Aunt “Nasty” all about it! At least she was cool about it and thought it was funny…:O)

By the way, is the the one???

Take care, Ruben…

Toni :O)

Have a good Onam with your sis and niece. Matching clothes is over rated. Almost 80% of the time my socks don’t match each other.

I’m still curious why you don’t do hugs? Is it because you’ve never had a proper one?

Later,
Emily

Sometimes you remind me of myself about 20 years ago! othertimes i think to myself of all those silly things i did that no one noticed!
Hey we got something else in common! We both have relations called Evelyn Though mine is spelt Evelyne and she is my sister !
And like Emily I was also curious why you don’t do hugs! I hug both Male and female friends nothing sexual about it, And I’ll be honest and say all my years growing up i don’t remember any hugs, By the way i still think i am growing up but started hugging ermmmmmm about 25 years ago.

I hope your sister’s visit allows you two to become closer! Take care my friend!
Regards and HUGS,
Markie

Dude, next time something like that happens, “I like the Nike on the Left and the K-Swiss on the right. Nike never could get the hang of Right.”
